Lesson Planning

Having a broad and deep knowledge of one’s subject areas is a fundamental requirement for becoming a good teacher. That isn’t enough to get you ready to teach, though. Teachers need to be adept in a number of skills, including being excellent classroom managers, having high standards for student achievement, and creating courses that will help students grasp content.

Teachers use lesson plans as a road map. The teacher must be aware of the target learning objectives—the mode of travel—the teaching/learning practices to use, the strategies for authentic evaluation identifies whether progress is being made toward the destination—and the appropriate summative assessment—which identifies whether goals and standards have been met (i.e., has the target been attained?).

The bulk of the pupils in the class may be of average ability, but there may also be some who are well below or significantly above the average. In order to accommodate for individual variances, techniques must be created with both easy and tough items. Using small groups and pair work provides them time to wander around and give special consideration to those below or above the norm, and should actively involve everyone. Small groups should either have a purposefully diverse range of ability or a homogeneous range to promote equal involvement.

Teachers may take into account the balance between student and teacher discourse while they organize the lesson because their natural tendency is to talk too much. Hence, when planning, teachers should make sure that every student has an opportunity to speak, to contribute, and even to start their own ideas.

It is assumed that teachers will follow an existing curriculum and alter it to fit the requirements and aims of their specific group of pupils as well as the educator’s personal teaching philosophy. They must first determine how each class period will advance the objectives of the curriculum.

Because there are several teacher evaluation programs and because educational stakeholders and trainers have different tastes, it is impossible to determine precisely how a formal lesson plan should appear or what material should be included while planning. The subject, general objective, specific objectives, procedures, timing, evaluation, materials, and pedagogical adaptability are some of the features that are virtually always included in lesson plan formats.
